Why Rent Your DVC Points? Getting Started with the DVC Rental Store

March 6, 2025
By

Owning Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points provides incredible flexibility, but sometimes life happens, and you may find yourself with points you can’t use before they expire. Instead of letting those valuable points go to waste, renting them out can provide financial benefits while helping another family experience a magical Disney vacation.

Why Rent Out Your DVC Points?

Many DVC Members choose to rent their points for various reasons:

  • Earn Extra Income: Renting your points can provide additional cash flow to cover annual dues, pay for future Disney vacations, or simply put money back in your pocket.
  • Avoid Expiring Points: If you have points nearing expiration that you can’t use, renting them ensures they don’t go to waste.
  • Maximize Value: Renting DVC points can provide a higher return than using them for non-Disney options like cruises or Adventures by Disney.
  • Flexibility: You maintain full control over your DVC Membership while making the most of unused points.

Why Rent with the DVC Rental Store?

Renting out your DVC points can seem overwhelming, but the DVC Rental Store simplifies the process, handling all the logistics so you can rent with confidence. Here’s why Members choose to rent with us:

  • Secure & Reliable: We handle all guest interactions and payments, ensuring a smooth rental process.

How to Get Started: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Create an Account

To start renting your DVC points, you’ll first need to create an account in the DVC Rental Store Member Center. This portal serves as your hub for managing rentals, tracking reservations, and accessing important tools.

  1. Visit DVC Rental Store’s website and click Rent Your Points.
  2. Enter your information and create a secure login.
  3. Verify your email to activate your account.

Step 2: Complete and Sign the Intermediary Agreement

To ensure a secure and transparent rental process, all Members must complete and sign the DVC Rental Store Intermediary Agreement. This agreement outlines:

  • Your responsibilities as a renting Member.
  • Payment terms and schedules.
  • Cancellation and modification policies.

Additionally, all U.S.-based Members are required to complete a W9 Tax Form before renting their points. The IRS considers rental income taxable, and per U.S. tax law, we must issue a 1099 tax form if you earn over $600 in a calendar year. Completing the W9 ensures proper tax reporting and compliance.

International Members should visit our International Instructions page for specific guidelines on renting points, as additional steps may be required.

You will be prompted to complete the Intermediary Agreement and W9 Tax Form within your Member Center account upon your initial login. Both must be signed before you can rent your points and must be renewed yearly.

Step 3: Access Rental Tools & Manage Your Points

Once your account is set up and the agreement is signed, you’ll gain access to key rental tools in our DVC Rental Store Member Center:

  • Claim Open Listings Page: This page displays Guest requests for specific reservations. If you have available points that match a request, you can claim the listing and move forward with booking the requested stay for our Guests.
  • My DVC Points: This section allows you to enter your available points so that you receive automated email alerts when a matching rental opportunity arises.

What to Expect After Signing Up

After completing these steps, you’re ready to start renting your points! Here’s what happens next:

  • If you’ve let us know what points you are looking to rent via the My DVC Points page, you’ll receive email alerts for potential rental matches based on your available points.
  • You can browse Open Listings and claim reservations that align with your points at any time.
  • Once you claim an Open Listings, you’ll be guided through the reservation process via email.
  • After the rental has been finalized, you get paid! Payments are issued in two installments (75% upfront and 25% after check-in).

Renting your DVC points is a fantastic way to make the most of your membership. Whether you’re looking to cover your dues, earn extra income, or simply help another Disney fan enjoy a magical trip, the DVC Rental Store makes the process easy and rewarding.
