Should you Begin your Disney Day at Whispering Canyon Cafe?
I love starting a Disney day at a table service restaurant. Don’t get me wrong; there is a time for a rope-drop grab-it-and-go breakfast on the way out of the door of your resort room. But friends, there are also times when you and I can begin the day at a more leisurely pace, comfortably surrounded in the glory of our Disney fandom in one of the Walt Disney World restaurants. Eating Mickey waffles, of course. Keep reading and join me for breakfast at Whispering Canyon Café!
Before you and I dig into how my breakfast time experience unfolded at Whispering Canyon, I must stop and extol the virtues of a visit to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. If you’ve never been, please, by all means, make the effort to stop by. Sit in its cavernous lobby and bask in the glow of the three-story-tall fireplace in the corner. Stop and let the soaring background music loop sweep over you as you consider how truly majestic this place is. And then, when it’s time for your dining reservation, make your way to Whispering Canyon Café. You’ll find it directly across the lobby from the front desk. And odds are that you’ll hear Whispering Canyon Café far before you’ll ever see it. Even in the morning, it’s a noisy affair.
Not too long ago, I made the case as to why Whispering Canyon Café was not for everyone. I stand by everything that I asserted in that article. If you’re looking for something quiet and serene, the café is not going to be your jam. You have to come here knowing the breakfast will be loud, but it’ll also be filled with joy.

There are three skillets on the menu at breakfast, with one of them being the same skillet that is featured during the lunch/dinner portion of things. If you’ve come looking for traditional breakfast items, you’ll want to go with The Heritage skillet, and if you’d like things a little lighter, you’ll want to opt for the appropriately named Lighter Side skillet that includes Bircher Muesli (Swiss oatmeal), yogurt, an egg white-spinach frittata, both turkey bacon and sausage, country potatoes, and, of course, Mickey-shaped waffles. I came seeking Mickey waffles, and I enjoy all of the items that you might find on the menu at a traditional breakfast joint, so The Heritage skillet was my choice.
My hubby decided to go with a couple of the choices that you’ll find in the à la carte section of the menu. This section features plentiful items, with some of them leaning more toward lunch than breakfast. In fact, this is technically a brunch menu, serving guests until 2 PM.

The entrée my husband landed on was the Brisket Omelet ($17). This entrée features a hearty portion of Whispering Canyon Café’s delicious brisket, cheddar cheese, onions and diced bell peppers. It was incredibly good, and all of the ingredients, including the brisket, worked together beautifully. To be honest, it seemed to me that anything that includes brisket would be quite heavy, but it was really the opposite. It was delicious and filling without leaving you feeling too full. The Brisket Omelet comes with your choice of either biscuit or toast.

The second a la carte item, one of the two appetizers on the menu, was a legit stunner and is something that I 100% recommend you try. The Avocado Toast ($12), a new recipe at the restaurant, is not only gorgeous to look at, but is incredibly delicious. Please get this. It’s large enough to share around the table, and is plant-based.

The Heritage Skillet came in a perfectly-sized skillet for one person. All food at Disney should be presented in such a cute fashion. I loved every morsel of the skillet. From the super crispy bacon to the creamy scrambled eggs, each item came to the table perfectly prepared. The cheddar biscuit is heavier than a standard biscuit, so after eating almost everything else (plus additional Mickey and MINNIE waffles, and bacon), I couldn’t finish the whole thing. Which reminds me: these skillets are all-you-care-to-enjoy. It’s like a buffet that comes to your table, which is the best of all possible worlds, in my opinion.

Order more of anything -or everything- and eat to your heart’s content. A word of warning, however: we’ve been told in the past by a server at Whispering Canyon that sharing with someone who did not order a skillet is strictly prohibited. Not even a bite can be shared lest you incur a charge for an extra skillet. Mind your P’s and Q’s, friends.
The coffee served at the cafe is Joffrey’s Resort blend, but if you’re looking for a fancier cup o’ joe, you can order a press pot of Joffrey’s Peru Alto Mayo Protected Forest coffee blend.
During the meal, we guests were asked to hoot and holler and wave our napkins above our heads while fellow guests paraded around the restaurant on stick ponies. And, of course, the calls across the cafe went out when ketchup was needed. Even if you’d rather not participate in the shenanigans, they’re going to be happening all around you. Lean in and have fun.
So, the question comes to you: would you want to start your Disney day with breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe? And, most importantly, could you please pass the ketchup?
