Where to Stay at Wilderness Lodge: Boulder Ridge or Copper Creek?
Inspired by national park lodges, the rustic Wilderness Lodge is conveniently located a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom. Wilderness Lodge is unique among the Disney World Resorts since it is home to two separate DVC Resorts: Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek.
If you are interested in staying at Wilderness Lodge, should you book a room at Boulder Ridge or Copper Creek? While Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek share amenities such as restaurants, pools, and transportation, there are a few differences to consider when choosing between the two resorts.
Location
One advantage to staying at Copper Creek is its location. With the exception of the standalone Cascade Cabins that sit along Bay Lake, the rooms at Copper Creek are located right inside Wilderness Lodge. This means that you don’t have to go outside for the main lobby, quick service dining at Roaring Fork, or table service dining at Whispering Canyon Cafe or Story Book Dining at Artist’s Point with Snow White. You’re also closer to the Copper Creek Springs pool, the main feature pool at Wilderness Lodge.
While not far, Boulder Ridge is its own separate building with a cozy lobby area called the Carolwood Pacific Railway Room. There is a covered walkway to connect Boulder Ridge to the main building. One amenity that is located at Boulder Ridge is Sturdy Branches Health Club, which is the fitness center for Wilderness Lodge. While at Boulder Ridge, you are also closer to the quiet pool, Boulder Ridge Cove Pool.
Room Types Offered
While neither resort offers different view categories, Copper Creek offers more room types than Boulder Ridge. In addition to the Deluxe Studios, One Bedroom Villas, and Two Bedroom Villas that Boulder Ridge offers, Copper Creek also has Three Bedroom Grand Villas that sleep up to 12 guests and the stunning Cascade Cabins that sleep up to 8 guests.
Room Capacity
Although both Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek offer Deluxe Studios, One Bedroom Villas, and Two Bedroom Villas, the room capacities are not the same.
Deluxe Studios
The Deluxe Studios at Boulder Ridge can sleep up to 5 guests while those at Copper Creek can only sleep up to 4 guests.
One Bedroom Villas
One Bedroom Villas at Copper Creek can only sleep up to 4 guests whereas those at Boulder Ridge can accommodate up to 5 guests with a caveat. Disney says that a “5th Guest can be accommodated, but no additional bedding, linens or towels will be provided.” If you have a 5th guest in a Boulder Ridge One Bedroom Villa, you’ll need to provide an air mattress or sleeping bag.
Two Bedroom Villas
Two Bedroom Villas at Copper Creek can sleep up to 8 guests, but those at Boulder Ridge can accommodate up to 9 guests. Similar to the One Bedroom Villas, Disney notes that the “9th Guest can be accommodated, but no additional bedding, linens or towels will be provided,” so the guest would need an air mattress or sleeping bag.
Availability
With 136 rooms at Boulder Ridge and 184 at Copper Creek, both DVC Resorts are rather small, which translates into limited availability. Wilderness Lodge’s cozy atmosphere, large fireplace, and Christmas tree make it especially popular during the holiday season, which means it is harder to book Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek towards the end of the year.
At Copper Creek, there are only 78 Deluxe Studios, and they tend to be challenging to book year round due to this limited inventory.
