Resort Activities to Beat the Heat at Disney World
It may not officially be summer yet, but the temperatures at Disney World are already hitting the 90s! Instead of sticking it out and melting in the theme parks, here are a few ideas to enjoy some resort time and cool down during the hottest part of the day.
Pool Time
Hopping into the pool is a great way to cool down, and the DVC Resorts have some of the best pools on Disney World property! Of course there’s the Beach Club with Stormalong Bay with its sand-bottom pool, lazy river, and Flying Jib shipwreck-themed water slide. Kidani Village’s Uwanja Camp is one of the best splash pad areas, with separate areas for kids of different age groups. Boulder Ridge can be a great spot for a quieter pool day with its cabana-like shaded areas, and Saratoga Springs can be a surprise hit for pool time. Each DVC Resort pool has its own fun features!
Resort Hopping
It’s always fun to go out and explore other resorts! Hop on the monorail or the Skyliner to check out the shops, restaurants, and lounges at the other resorts. Even if you aren’t staying at a resort along the monorail or Skyliner, you can easily go to any of the theme parks and use the bus stop as a hub to resort hop. Another scenic way to resort hop is to take a boat. Starting in the late afternoon, you can take the blue flag boat that takes you to each of the resorts on Bay Lake: Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, and the Contemporary.

Community Halls
The community halls are easily overlooked, but they are great for some fun in the AC! The exact activities offered vary from resort to resort, though each has arts and crafts like ceramics and coloring, board games, and video games. Many also have toys, puzzles, and books for young children. It’s also a nice spot to relax and catch a movie.
You’ll find community halls at:
While not officially referred to as community halls by Disney, the Eventi Room at Riviera, Simba’s Cubhouse at Jambo House, and Humphrey’s Hideout at Wilderness Lodge offer similar activities like crafts and games.

Arcades
Another underrated resort amenity is the arcade. There are classics like pinball, skeeball, and Pac-Man and even games for little kids to enjoy, like smaller racing games and crane games. Most of the DVC Resorts have an arcade:
- Animal Kingdom Villas: Jambo House: Pumbaa’s Fun and Games Arcade
- Animal Kingdom Villas: Kidani Village: Safari So Good
- Bay Lake Tower: The Game Station
- Beach Club: Lafferty Place Arcade
- BoardWalk: Side Show Games
- Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek: Buttons & Bells Arcade
- The Cabins at Fort Wilderness: Davey Crockett’s Wilderness Arcade
- Grand Floridian: Arcadia Games
- Old Key West: Electric Eel Gameroom and Flying Fish Gameroom
- Saratoga Springs: Win, Place or Show Arcade

Movie Under the Stars
On hot summer days, the weather is often more comfortable once the sun goes down. Take advantage of the cooler evenings and catch a movie under the stars. Check the resort activity schedule to find out which nights Movie Under the Stars takes place and which movies are being shown. You can find the list on the activity posters at the resorts, or you can find them online under the recreation sections of the resort pages on the Disney website.
