DVC Resort Activities: Cabins at Fort Wilderness
The newest DVC resort, the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, is closest to the Magic Kingdom, but there are so many things to do right at the resort. In fact, it has the most outdoor activities of any of the DVC resorts! Here’s a look at all the activities you’ll find at Fort Wilderness.
Sports & Outdoor Activities
Basketball Courts
There are several basketball courts throughout Fort Wilderness. Each court is equipped with a box containing basketballs for guests to use. If the box is empty, you can call Housekeeping from a Comfort Station phone to have a basketball delivered to the court.
Bike Rentals
Rent a bike from the Bike Barn near the Meadow Trading Post, and enjoy exploring the beautiful campgrounds. Bike rentals are per day. You’ll find bikes for adults and children, even some bikes with training wheels. Helmets and child seats are complimentary.
Canoe and Kayak Rentals
Also available from the Bike Barn are canoe and kayak rentals. Canoes and kayaks are $15 per person before tax and are available on a first-come, first-served basis to guests 18 and over. (Guests 18 and over can also rent on behalf of a minor age 12 or older.) Complimentary life jackets must be worn.
Fishing
You can choose between a guided bass fishing excursion and dockside fishing. The guided excursion on a pontoon boat or tournament-style bass fishing boat can be 2 or 4 hours and is led by an experienced guide. You’ll get a rod and reel, tackle, bait, and assorted Coca-Cola beverages. To make a reservation, call 407-939-3474.
For catch-and-release dockside fishing, you can rent fishing gear at the Bike Barn.
Fort Wilderness Archery Experience
This 75-minute archery session takes place at the Bike Barn and is open to guests ages 7 and up. You’ll learn how to use a compound bow to fire at range targets and get personalized advice from an archery guide. The experience is $49 per person, not including tax. Reservations are recommended for archery.
Horse-drawn Carriage Rides
Check in near Crockett’s Tavern, and go on a horse-drawn carriage ride on the scenic trails of Fort Wilderness. The 25-minute carriage ride costs $65 and fits up to 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 small children. You can make reservations up to 60 days before you visit.
Horse-drawn Wagon Rides
These old-fashioned wagons are pulled by two draft horses and depart from the front of Pioneer Hall on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 6pm and 8:30pm. The 20-minute group ride is $25 per guest ages 10 and up and $15 for guests ages 3 to 9. It is first-come, first-served, so there are no reservations to make.
Playgrounds
There are four playgrounds at Fort Wilderness. You’ll find them at Clementine’s Beach, the Meadow Recreation Area, and the campsite areas. Each playground is close to a bus stop, so they are easily accessible.
Tri Circle D Ranch
Visit the ranch to see the horses at the stable (including Cinderella’s ponies), take your little one for a pony ride, or go horseback riding. Pony rides are $10 per child and are for kids at least 3 years of age who are under 80 pounds, no taller than 48 inches, and can hang on by themselves. To make reservations for a pony ride, call 407-824-2832.
Guests ages 9 and up can go on 45-minute horseback trail rides for $65 per person. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance online or via the My Disney Experience app. Riders have to be over 48 inches tall and under 250 pounds.
During the holiday season, you can also go for a 25-minute sleigh ride around Fort Wilderness. The sleighs can fit up to 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 small children. Sleigh rides are $80 plus tax and can be booked up to 60 days in advance online or through the My Disney Experience app.
Volleyball
Play volleyball on the sand court in the Meadow Recreation area. You can check out a complimentary volleyball from the Bike Barn using your resort ID.
Wilderness Back Trail Adventure
Take a 2-hour guided tour of Fort Wilderness on a Segway® X2! Before you set out, you’ll get 30 minutes of instruction on how to operate the X2. Along the tour, a cast member will use a headset to share trivia, anecdotes, and instructions as you ride through the resort grounds. To participate, guests have to be at least 16 years old and weigh between 100 and 250 pounds due to the X2’s design. The tour is $90 per person, excluding tax.
