Comparing DVC Rooms: Fort Wilderness Cabin, One Bedroom Villa, or Deluxe Studio?

February 29, 2024
By

The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort are a unique DVC accommodation with room for up to six guests and even some pet-friendly cabins.  Despite the cabins’ higher capacity, the newly released points charts for them show that they are very economical for point usage.  In fact, the cabins’ point chart is similar to that of many Deluxe Studios and lower than One Bedroom Villas at other DVC resorts despite the cabins’ ample space and full kitchen.  With that in mind, which room type would be best to book?

Here are some considerations when choosing among the Fort Wilderness Cabin, a One Bedroom Villa, or a Deluxe Studio.

Amenities

One Bedroom Villas have the best amenities among the three room types with a full kitchen, washer, and dryer.  The Fort Wilderness cabins offer similar amenities but lack the washer and dryer.   One amenity that is unique to the cabins is the porch, table, and chairs, which are perfect for dining al fresco.

The Deluxe Studios will have the least amenities compared to the One Bedroom Villas and cabins.  In lieu of a full kitchen, you’ll find a kitchenette with a toaster, microwave, coffee maker, mini-fridge, and sink.

Room Layout

The cabins accommodate the most guests with room for up to six adults.  However, its layout can be inconvenient depending on your travel party.  There is a queen size Murphy bed in the living room, but then the rest of the beds (including a queen size bed and a bunk bed) are all in the same bedroom.  This means up to four guests would share the bedroom, which leaves little privacy, similar to the Deluxe Studios.  Deluxe Studios sleep up to five guests, and all would sleep in the same room.

In addition, although the cabin has a split bathroom, it is on the end of the cabin opposite the bedroom. Guests sleeping in the bedroom would have to cut through the living room where other guests may be sleeping to reach the bathroom.

One Bedroom Villas provide the most privacy among the three room types.  Two guests would sleep on the king bed in the one bedroom, and the others would sleep on the sofa bed, Murphy bed, or pulldown bed in the living room (depending on what is in that particular villa).

In the One Bedroom Villas, the bathroom is typically accessible both directly from the bedroom and from the living room.  Plus, there are even some that have two full bathrooms, which makes it even easier for everyone to get ready in the morning.

When it comes to proximity to the parks, the Deluxe Studios and One Bedroom Villas at most other resorts have the upper hand compared to the Fort Wilderness cabins.  If you plan to spend more time in the parks than at your resort, you may prefer to stay at a Deluxe Studio or One Bedroom Villa at another resort.

At the cabins, you would need to take Fort Wilderness’ internal bus to the park bus depot.  From there, you have to transfer to the bus heading to the park you’d like to visit.  For the Magic Kingdom, you would take the internal bus to the Settlement Trading Post, walk to the marina, and ride the ferry to the Magic Kingdom.  This can add more travel time to your day.

If you plan to have more of a resort stay, the cabins can be a great option.  Fort Wilderness has lots of recreational activities like archery that you won’t find at other Disney resorts.  With Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Fort Wilderness, you can enjoy trail rides, pony rides, carriage rides, or wagon rides.  You can also head to the stables and visit Cinderella’s ponies and the horses of Main Street, U.S.A.  At night, gather around the campfire for Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Sing-A-Long and roasted marshmallows at the Campground Theater.
