Blizzard Beach Opening 2020
Blizzard Beach
Blizzard Beach was refurbished over the winter, and reopens January 23, 2020 at 10am. Typhoon Lagoon started refurbishment Jan 19, 2020 and is set to open March 28, 2020. So Blizzard Beach is where you will want to visit for the next several months. Tickets at Blizzard Beach are $63 for 3-9 year olds, and $69 for anyone age 10+, plus tax. This is a fun place to spend a non-park day.
Blizzard Beach’s Cross Country Creek
Blizzard Beach’s lazy river (Cross Country Creek) is wonderful. What’s better than to spend the afternoon, just floating down a river? Nothing It’s always more fun with a group of people so you can chat as you slowly make your way around the park. Watch out for Mount Gushmore – and ice cold water streams as you float!
Blizzard Beach’s Slides
If you are looking for slides, Blizzard Beach does not disappoint! You can go on super high slides, you can race down slides, you can go on innertubes or toboggans, you can even take a group (up to 6 people) on a large innertube slide.
Racing Slides
The two main “racing slides” are both on the Purple Slopes: Toboggan Racers & Downhill Double Dipper (pictured below). Toboggan Racers lie on a mat, on your stomach and head face first down the slides. The Downhill Double Dipper contestants race down on innertubes, and get to hear a loud bell announcing the winner. Just an FYI…the Double Dipper line was especially long when we visited. If you have a competitive spirit you’ll want to grab your friend or family member and head for the Purple Slopes.
High Slides
Yikes!! Summit Plummet and Slush Gusher are two of the tallest and fastest slides at Blizzard Beach. In fact, Summit Plummet is one of the tallest and fastest free-fall body slides in the world according to Disney! Either way, both give an adrenaline rush…and the Summit Plummet gives free swimsuit wedgies too. Both can be found on the Green Slopes (you can get there with the chairlift or by walking up steps).
Open/Closed Slides
Head over to the Red Slopes for your choice of three single-rider inner tube slides. Two are open slides so you can enjoy the outdoors, and one is a closed ride. The closed ride makes you feel like you are going faster because you are in the dark. The line moves pretty fast here, and you get an arm workout because you have to carry your inner tube up the steps. This was another of my favorite spots at Blizzard Beach.
Wave Pool
This wave pool is one acre of gentle waves, and has the fun name Melt-Away Bay. As you can see in the picture below, even littles feel welcome here. If you want to sunbathe, this is where you will want to set up camp. Most other places around Blizzard Beach offer areas of shade as well as sun. If you park here for the day, you are in close proximity to snacks, the Red Slopes, the Purple Slopes, and the lazy river.
Ski Patrol Training Camp
Ski Patrol Training Camp is a fun place for kids to work through obstacles (see below) as they try to stay on the “melting ice”. This area offers more intermediate slides for children as well.
Tike’s Peak
Tike’s Peak is the perfect place for any children under 48”. This is especially convenient as they are not allowed to slide down Summit Plummet, Slush Gusher, or Double Dipper due to height restrictions. You can find small slides here as well as just fun water activities for little children.
Team Boat Springs
At Team Boat Springs, you can take up to 6 people on a large innertube, and enjoy one of the longest group rides. This was one of my top faves (right after the lazy river). You can find this crowd pleaser on the Green Slopes as well…and look for the giant Mickey at the end of the course (see below).
Lounging Areas
Blizzard Beach offers several places to lounge. You can upgrade for a small fee and get an umbrella area (located throughout the park). With this reservation, you get two reserved loungers, two beach chairs, and towels. Reservations are for 4 people.
If you want a private area, you can reserve a Polar Patio. These patios are excellent. However, the cost for the Polar Patios change throughout the season, and you may be charged up to $319.50 per day. With the Polar Patio, you get a server on-call to bring you food, you get refillable drink mugs, a water cooler stocked with water, a locker to place valuables in, towels, and cushioned seating in a shaded area.
If you are looking for a fun day outside of the parks, head to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon.
