What to Do With Unused DVC Points: Bank, Rent, or Swap?

November 4, 2026
By

When you have DVC points that you don’t plan to use, they don’t have to go to waste! You can bank them for later use, rent them out to earn cash, or swap your points to use them for a different vacation. Which option may be best for you and your points?

Banking Your Points

Maybe this year simply isn’t the time to use your points for a Disney vacation, or perhaps you have some plans in mind for next year. Banking your points lets you save your unused points and put them towards the next year’s vacation.

Banking points can be a great way to have extra points for a longer stay or upgraded accommodations next year. That can mean booking a larger room or reserving a better view or preferred location.

To bank your points, make sure you have not yet surpassed your banking deadline. The deadline will depend on your contract’s Use Year:

Renting Your Points

If you don’t have any plans for your points or you need to postpone a trip, you can also rent out your points. Renting is an option even if you missed your banking deadline. It can also be a helpful option if it is near the end of the year, and you are looking for ways to pay for next year’s annual dues. Why not turn your unused points into cash?

With DVC Rental Store, you have 3 easy ways to rent out your points:

  1. Matching Your Points

When you set up your member account with DVC Rental Store, you’ll list the points you have available for rent, and the system will send you email notifications when there is a matching rental request for your points.

  1. Claiming an Open Listing

Should your points be nearing their expiration date or you want to turn your points to cash quickly, an efficient way to do this is by claiming an open listing. These are rental requests from guests that have not yet been fulfilled. If you find a match, you can rent out your points to fulfill their request.

  1. Renting Out a Confirmed Reservation

If you have a trip that you need to postpone, you could consider renting out your resort reservation as is.

If you decide to rent out your points, always remember that it’s best to rent them out as soon as you know you won’t be using them. Planning in advance gives you more time to rent them out and better room availability to help match a guest’s rental request.

Swapping Your Points

If you do want to travel this year but you want to try something other than a stay at a Disney Resort, consider swapping your points for a different vacation. With DVC Rental Store’s Swap Program, a Swap Advisor will help you plan and book a getaway, and you’ll rent out your points to cover the cost of your trip. You can also contribute cash to cover the remaining balance if you don’t have enough points.

You can swap your DVC points for vacations with:
