What to Bring for a DVC Stay?
Staying in a DVC Studio or Villa means that you get more space compared to a standard hotel room, and you get more amenities since DVC accommodations are designed to feel like a home away from home. To make the most of extra amenities such as kitchens or washing machines and dryers, here’s what you may want to bring for your DVC stay.
For a Studio
DVC Studios, including Deluxe Studios, Tower Studios, and Duo Studios, typically have kitchenettes with a microwave, toaster, mini-fridge, and coffee maker. It’s just enough to make snacks and simple, light meals. You may want to consider a grocery delivery with beverages, snacks, fruit, microwaveable goods (like popcorn, instant oatmeal, ramen, or mac and cheese), bread, and cold cuts for sandwiches. If you plan to bring any snacks or sandwiches into the parks, you may also want some ziplock bags.
Resort Studios at the Grand Floridian’s Big Pine Key building are slightly different and have a beverage center with a beverage cooler, coffee maker, and microwave. When planning what to include in a grocery order, keep in mind that the beverage cooler doesn’t get cold enough to preserve food.
Studios don’t have their own washer and dryer, but DVC Members and rental guests who stay in DVC Studios have access to the complimentary laundry rooms at each DVC Resort. While these machines are free to operate, you do have to pay for the laundry detergent and dryer sheets from the vending machines, so it helps to bring your own laundry pods or sheets. Doing laundry on vacation may seem odd to some, but it helps you pack lighter, and it’s always nice to come home with a suitcase full of clean laundry.
For a One Bedroom Villa or Larger Villa
With a full kitchen and dining table in the larger DVC accommodations, you can make and enjoy full meals in your room. Although some people prefer to dine out while on vacation, sometimes cooking in your villa can help you get a head start on rope dropping, save room in the budget for other vacation extras, or make familiar foods for picky eaters or guests with specific dietary restrictions. In addition to any snacks, beverages, and groceries that you may need to cook meals, don’t forget basics like cooking oil, salt, and pepper since the villas do not supply them.
One Bedroom Villas and larger DVC accommodations have their own washing machines and dryers, and you’ll notice that the room will even have a small supply of laundry detergent. If you have a preference for a certain detergent, or you need fabric softener, you will want to bring that with you or have it delivered to the resort.
Note that although the Cabins at Fort Wilderness are considered one bedroom units, they do not have a washing machine or dryer. You may want to bring your own detergent if you plan to use the laundry facilities at the resort.
