Disney Vacation Club has announced exciting new details about the newest addition to Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows at Walt Disney World Resort: the Island Tower!

Scheduled to open in December 2024, this new tower promises to enhance the enchanting experience of the resort by combining luxurious accommodation with rich cultural storytelling and environmental sustainability.

Let’s check out all the exciting details!

Design and Inspiration

The design of the Island Tower draws heavily on the heritage and aesthetics of the South Pacific. Bill Diercksen, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club, describes the tower as a spectacular addition that will offer stunning views of Magic Kingdom Park and interiors that immerse guests in the storytelling of the South Pacific Islands.

“With stunning views of Magic Kingdom Park and beautiful interiors that bring you into the storytelling of the South Pacific Islands, the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will be a spectacular addition to Walt Disney World Resort right in the heart of the magic.” – Bill Diercksen

Influenced by original concept art by Walt Disney Imagineering for the Polynesian, the new 10-story tower will feature a lobby adorned with a breathtaking ceiling art installation inspired by native wildlife of the South Pacific, symbolizing values important to the regional culture.

Art and Environment

The Island Tower will also stand out for its environmental commitment. Projected to use approximately 30% less energy than typical resorts of its size, it incorporates optimized heating and cooling systems, energy-efficient lighting, and features the first all-electric kitchen in Walt Disney World Resort as part of a brand new restaurant coming to the tower. Moreover, the tower’s construction utilized prefabrication techniques to minimize waste, aligning with Disney’s 2030 environmental goals.

Madeline Day, a Walt Disney Imagineer, emphasized that the tower’s artwork celebrates Polynesian wayfinding and the elements of nature, with contributions from contemporary Polynesian artists and nods to Disney characters and stories, such as ‘Moana’ and Disney Legend Mary Blair.
