More Details Announced for Magic Kingdom’s New “Cars” Area
Disney Parks Blog has shared some exciting new details for the new “Cars” area that is planned for Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland! Here’s what we now know about the new area called Piston Peak National Park.
Construction Will Begin Soon
As shown on the newly released map, Piston Peak National Park will be located in Frontierland. It will be situated next to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad where Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat are currently located. These three attractions will close as of July 7 to make way for Piston Peak. No opening date has been shared yet for Piston Peak National Park.
Guests Will Get to Explore Another Part of the “Cars” Universe
Unlike Cars Land in Disneyland that brings Radiator Springs to life, Piston Peak National Park comes from the “Cars” spin-off, “Planes: Fire & Rescue.” Guests will be able to visit Ranger HQ, trails, and Piston Peak National Park Lodge. They’ll also meet the original theme park character, Ranger J. Autobahn, who is depicted in the corner of the map.

Inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and America’s national parks, the fictional Piston Peak National Park will feature lush landscapes with mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and geysers like “Old Tankful” that will blend in well with the Frontierland terrain. The trees and mountains will also help preserve sightlines, so Piston Peak will not be visible from Liberty Square.
The Area Will Have Two Attractions
Disney previously announced that Piston Peak will introduce two new attractions. One will be a thrilling off-road rally race through the mountains and around geysers and mud holes. The other will be a family-friendly attraction that even little racers can enjoy.
