Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar to the Rescue!

July 12, 2024
By

I recently found myself in a situation that I’d venture a guess that you, as a Walt Disney World fan, have also been in. It was a busy Thursday night at Disney Springs, and way past the time when my hubby and I were ready for dinner. We were teetering VERY CLOSE to the “hangry” category, and we weren’t wanting a counter service dining option. And, I should also add, we were without a table service dining reservation. Great job, Deni. Are you new ‘round these parts? Sigh.

We were wading through the throngs of parents pushing strollers filled with excited littles at Rainforest Cafe when a possible solution came to my mind. Would it work? Could it work? A glance at my watch told me it was pushing 7:30pm. Could a table be available now? Maybe, just maybe.

I quickly mentioned my idea to my now full-blown hangry husband and we made a beeline to The Landing. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar was the hopeful answer to our predicament.

First things first, let me just say that I don’t drink. And secondly, let me say that you not drinking isn’t a reason to skip Jock Lindsey’s, or any of Disney World’s bars and lounges for that matter. There are mocktails for all, and the food isn’t to be missed. Plus, if you’re a fan of Indiana Jones and Jones-adjacent lore, Jock Lindsey’s will float your boat.

Speaking of floating boats, you can actually dine and drink the night away in one at Jock Lindsey’s. On our night at the Hangar Bar, we opted to dine indoors in the diving bell. Seating is first come, first served, and the diving bell is incredibly popular, so having the chance to sit inside started our experience off on the right foot.

I began the meal with the Poisonless Dart, a drink that employs the use of mint, simple syrup and lime juice, paired with soda water. There are currently four mocktails on the menu, and the Poisonless Dart was a great pick on my part. If you like the taste of a No-jito, this one’s for you.

It’s at this point that I should remind you that my hubby and I were hungry when we rolled into Jock Lindsey’s. Very. Hungry. What unfolded from here was a cavalcade of very good choices as we proceeded to eat our way through the menu. Jock knows how to cook, friends.

The first thing to land on the table was Doctor Astorga’s Queso Fundido ($12.50). Years ago, I made Disney California Adventure’s Queso Fundido recipe at home, and it was love at first bite. Doctor Astorga’s rendition did not disappoint. The blend of cheeses was fabulous and the chips were weighty and delicious. One note, however: the dish came out lukewarm. I’m hopeful that this was a one-off occurrence.

After a few sips of my Poisonless Dart and a look around the diving bell (please note all of the homages to Jock Lindsey’s adventures inside the bell), our next three dishes arrived simultaneously. Yes, I did say three dishes. While not a table service restaurant, the Hangar Bar does have quite an extensive menu. And, to be honest, it’s hard to choose just a few items, or just five, in our case.

I came into Jock Lindsey’s wanting one specific item: the Air Pirate’s Cargo Loaded Pretzel ($22.50). I’ve had this pretzel only once before, and I wanted another shot at savoring its goodness. If you’re a charcuterie lover, be sure to give this pretzel-focused iteration a try. The Black Diamond cheddar had the best bite to it, and what’s not to love about gobs of prosciutto?!

If I were to choose one dish that came in lower on my “must-eat” list, I’d pick the Adobo Chicken Tacos ($12). Don’t get me wrong; this is getting fairly picky because the flavor of the shredded chicken and the complex layering of the ingredients added to the overall dish. But the tacos fell apart quickly, and the dish ended up being more of a taco salad with soggy tortillas.

If there’s one sleeper hit on the menu, it’s the Medjoul Date and Manchego Flatbread (9.25). I know what you’re thinking: dates? On a pizza? Nope, no thanks. I hear you, and I get it. However, it was recommended by not one server, but two. And I knew from the start that those Medjoul dates would lend a sweet element to the flatbread. I was intrigued. And it turned out that the flatbread was savored. The saltiness of the manchego and crispy prosciutto married beautifully with the sweetness of the dates, lending to an overall elevated dish. Please get this.

Our last dish was, to be honest, forgotten. Bless it. It’s not that we weren’t looking forward to it; we simply got caught up in all of the eating to miss the fact that one of the dishes we had ordered had yet to arrive. But arrive the Snakebite Sliders ($12 for 2 and $15 for 3) did, much to our surprise and laughter over the fact that we were going to need to try to eat them while already completely stuffed.

The sliders feature tomato-bacon jam and house-made pickles. In my book, any time that you see tomato-bacon jam on a Walt Disney World menu, you order the dish. It doesn’t matter if doesn’t seem like it would be your favorite; that jam will make it so. And I am always a fan of house-made pickles. The sliders were excellent, even on a very full stomach.

So, what about you? Where would you go if you found yourself on a very busy Disney Springs evening without a table service reservation? Hmmm…
