The long-anticipated Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers has finally opened at the BoardWalk. However, for up to $24.99 per slice, the cake there sure is a pricey splurge! If that’s a little too rich for your taste, here are some great cakes to treat yourself to at Walt Disney World for a fraction of the cost of cake from the Cake Bake Shop.
Dad’s Favorite Chocolate-Peanut Butter Layered Cake at 50’s Prime Time Café
50’s Prime Time Café at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is just the place to go for a bite of comfort food, and the Chocolate-Peanut Butter Layered Cake is exactly that! The three layers of chocolate cake are layered with a rich chocolate peanut butter ganache for the perfect classic combination. This dessert is $8.50, but getting it à la mode for $10.50 is worth the extra $2.
Seven Layer Cake at Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair
Situated atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is Top of the World Lounge. If you’re DVC Member who is eligible to visit this Disney Vacation Club lounge, there’s the special Seven-Lair Cake with salted caramel sauce. Among the seven layers are chocolate cake, yellow cake, chocolate mousse, and ganache. A slice of this decadent cake is $12.
Rainbow Crunch Cake at Gideon’s Bakehouse
If you love a good confetti cake, head over to Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs for the Rainbow Crunch Cake. This cake has three layers of vanilla confetti cake and generous amounts of multi-colored marshmallow buttercream with crunchy rainbow crumbs, which adds a nice bit of texture to set this cake apart from your standard confetti cake. The Rainbow Crunch Cake is typically offered every Friday for $10 per slice and is limited to two slices per person. If you really love this cake, you can preorder the whole cake for pickup at the East End Market location for $72.
Chocolate Cake at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin
Not too far from the Cake Bake Shop is the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. Each of them has a quick service location (Java at the Swan and Fuel at the Dolphin) that not only serves coffee and grab and go sandwiches but also an unassumingly rich and delicious chocolate cake. Two thick layers of chocolate cake are topped with chocolate ganache, chocolate shavings, a decorative chocolate piece, and a little swirl of chocolate buttercream. This hidden gem costs $12 per slice.
