Animal Kingdom Villas: When Is Savanna View Worth It Over Resort View?

April 15, 2025
By

Whether you choose Jambo House or Kidani Village, Animal Kingdom Villas arguably offers the most unique feature out of all the Disney resorts: savannas that are home to more than 200 animals!  When booking a stay at Animal Kingdom Villas, you can choose a Savanna View or Resort View (a view of the landscaping, pool, or parking area).  Since the Savanna View costs more DVC points than a Resort View, which translates into a more expensive rental price, is the upgraded view worth it?

The Savanna Is the Main Reason You Booked Animal Kingdom Villas

If Animal Kingdom Villas is a bucket list item, and it may be the one time you are staying there, go for the Savanna View to get the full experience of what the resort has to offer.  After all, at no other resort would you be able to see giraffes, zebras, and more from your balcony!  You truly feel transported to your own African safari adventure through the immersive theming of Animal Kingdom Villas.

You Have Enough Time to Enjoy the Room

With such a fantastic view, you want to have enough time to really take it all in.  If you are planning a longer stay, it’s nice to save a couple of rest days to just relax and enjoy the resort.  That includes spending time on your balcony animal-watching.  Don’t forget to ask the front desk for an animal guide to help you identify the animals that you spot!

There Is More Availability

Between Jambo House and Kidani Village, there are more Savanna View rooms than there are Resort View rooms.  In fact, most rooms at Kidani Village are Savanna View rooms.  More inventory can mean that you’ll have an easier time getting the reservation that you want.

You Have a Short Trip

With DVC rooms, check in starts at 4pm, and check out is by 11am.  If you only plan to spend a night or two at Animal Kingdom Villas, sometimes that’s not enough time in the room to enjoy a Savanna View.  Plus, aside from the view, the Savanna View and Resort View rooms are otherwise identical in amenities and space.

You Plan to Be at the Theme Parks a Lot

When you have lots of plans to visit the theme parks, you likely won’t be in the room long enough to enjoy a view of the savanna.  In addition, if you’re the kind of guest who likes to go from rope drop to closing, you may not even be around your room when the animals on the savanna are most active.  Typically, that’s either the early morning or late afternoon.

You’re Happy with the Public Viewing Areas

Aside from the Savanna View villas, there are quite a few areas off the lobbies of Jambo House and Kidani Village to see the Savannas.  For example, from the back of the Jambo House lobby, you can walk outside towards the Arusha Savanna.  You can also view the Uzima Savanna from near the Uzima Springs Pool Bar.  If you are content to view the animals from these areas and the overlooks found throughout the resort, you may not feel the need to spend the extra money to rent points for a Savanna View room.
