Which Disney Resort is YOUR Favorite?

July 26, 2024
By

I was recently asked a question in the comment section of one of my videos that I had a tougher time answering than I thought I might. Let me pose the same question to you: Which Disney resort is your favorite?

It’s tough one to pinpoint, isn’t it? We Disney World fans each have our favorites, but to narrow the differing Disney resorts down to just one seemed impossible. But, after surveying the options and weighing the pros and cons, I think I’ve come to a decision. My choice is Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

Don’t get me wrong; if money (or DVC points) was no option, I’d move into Disney’s Riviera Resort tonight. I could have my bags packed in roughly 10 minutes, and I’d never look back. But if I’m footing the bill, I don’t think you get more bang for your buck than Coronado Springs. Pour a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and let me count the ways.

The Rooms

All guest rooms at Coronado Springs were refurbished to coincide with the July 2019 opening of Gran Destino Tower, and the non-tower rooms feature finishes and furnishings that reflect the same aethestic as that of the tower rooms. I’ve had the chance to stay in a preferred room twice in the past, but my favorite rooms in the resort can be found in Gran Destino. In my mind, those accommodations just can’t be beat.

From the oil-rubbed bronze finishings to the giant barn door than cordons off the bathroom to the park and fireworks views you get from the rooms in the front of the tower, it gives you a very deluxe feel with a moderate price tag. And that, my friends, is value with a capital V.

The Food

Ahhhh, the food. Where do we begin? Coronado Springs Resort boasts food for days, and you and I get to reap the benefits. The resort has four table service restaurants (remember, at its heart it’s a convention hotel), one food court, two amazing lounges, a pool bar that serves food and drinks, and a small lakeside bar.

Toledo – found on the 16th floor of Gran Destino Tower – is my current favorite Disney table service restaurant. It’s a slam dunk every time, and if you’re a charcuterie lover, the Spaniard appetizer is not to be missed. And please finish off your meal with a Cafe Bombon. You’ll thank me later.

There are two sleeper hits among the foodie bunch here at Coronado Springs: breakfast at Rix Sports Bar and Grill and dinner at Maya Grill. I know what you’re thinking: “Breakfast at a sports bar?!” Yep; please give it a try. You’ll love it. I promise.

Maya Grill is hands-down the most surprising meal I’ve had at Walt Disney World in a very long time. The meal deserves a review article of its own, but suffice it to say, I can’t wait to return.

The Fun

There are recreation activities galore at the resort. Just look at the incredible pool and surrounding area at The Dig Site: you’ve got an arcade, themed playground, sand pit volleyball court, waterslide, and the aforementioned Siestas Cantina pool bar. It’s every kid’s Shangri-La.

The resort’s Movie Under the Stars takes place on the grassy area at the foot of Gran Destino Tower. Guests can complete a resort scavenger hunt, create a Disney mosaic ($25/person) or snooze the afternoon away in a lakeside hammock.

The Transportation

This is the area in which I’d like to see improvement. My hubby and I chose to stay at Coronado Springs for Disney World’s 50th knowing that we could pop right downstairs well before the crack of dawn on the big morning and hop on the resort’s only mode of transportation, a Disney bus. Our plan worked on the 50th anniversary, and our wait wasn’t too bad at all. That being said, there were assuredly extra buses running that morning, helping the wait times to be much shorter. I’ve heard guests tell of long wait times for buses to the parks recently, and I’m hoping that transportation for guests will be strengthened. I’d love to see the Skyliner extend to the resort, though I believe it to be highly unlikely to actually happen because the gondolas would have to traverse World Drive in order to do so.

So, the question comes to you: which Walt Disney World resort is YOUR current favorite?
