How Much Can I Get for Renting Out My DVC Points?

Have Disney Vacation Club points that you know you won’t be able to use? Maybe your travel plans changed, your points are approaching expiration, or an unexpected expense has you looking for a little extra cash. Whatever the reason, you can turn unused DVC points into cash by renting them out through DVC Rental Store.

So, how much can you get for renting out your DVC points? The answer depends on several factors, including how soon your points expire, which resort you own at, how far in advance the reservation can be booked, and current guest demand.

How Soon Do Your DVC Points Expire?

When it comes to renting DVC points, earlier is generally better.

Reservations made during the 7-to-11-month home resort booking window can typically offer a higher payout than points that have already entered the 0-to-7-month booking window. That is because, during those earlier months, your points have something particularly valuable: the ability to book your home resort before Members who own elsewhere can compete for the same inventory.

Once a reservation moves inside seven months, many Disney Vacation Club points can be used across the broader DVC resort network, subject to the applicable booking restrictions. At that point, your specific home resort advantage has largely disappeared.

The takeaway is simple: if you already know you will not be using your points, renting them earlier can give you more opportunities to maximize their value. Waiting until points are approaching expiration may limit both the reservations they can book and the amount you can potentially earn from them.

Get an Estimate of How Much Your DVC Points Could Be Worth

Want to know what your unused DVC points could be worth right now?

To make that easier for Members, DVC Rental Store has created the tool below. Simply select your home resort and enter the number of points you would like to rent. The calculator will provide an estimated value based on the current prevailing payout rate for that resort within the 7-to-11-month home resort booking window.

Keep in mind that this is an estimate rather than a guaranteed payout. Your actual rental opportunities can depend on availability, booking dates, point expiration, reservation demand, and other factors.

Your Home Resort Matters

There is an old rule in real estate: location, location, location. That idea applies surprisingly well to DVC point rentals too.

Some Disney Vacation Club resorts are especially sought after by Guests because of their location, amenities, transportation options, room types, or simply the popularity of the resort itself. When demand for reservations is high and the number of available points is relatively limited, points from those resorts can become particularly valuable during the home resort booking window.

Disney’s Beach Club Villas is a great example. Beach Club is a smaller DVC property with a highly desirable location within walking distance of EPCOT and convenient access to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Availability can disappear quickly, especially during popular travel periods, which makes the 11-month booking advantage particularly important.

By comparison, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is one of the largest DVC resorts. It remains a great option for many Guests, but there are significantly more points in circulation and more inventory available. Guests specifically looking to rent DVC points may also place a premium on resorts closer to the theme parks, particularly those along the monorail, Skyliner, or within walking distance of a park.

That difference in supply and demand is why two Members renting the exact same number of points may receive different potential payouts depending on where those points are owned.

How Quickly Can I Rent Out My DVC Points?

There is no guaranteed timeline for renting DVC points, since everything ultimately depends on matching your points with a Guest who needs them. However, there are a few things you can do to put yourself in the best position to find a rental opportunity sooner.

One of the most important is simply getting started early. Create an account through the DVC Rental Store Member Center and add the points you are interested in renting to the system. Doing so allows you to receive alerts when potential rental opportunities become available that may match your points.

It is also worth checking the Claim Open Listings page regularly. These listings represent current Guest requests that Members may be able to fulfill using their points.

The more frequently you are watching for opportunities, and the more flexibility you have with the points you are renting, the better positioned you may be to find a match.

Most importantly, do not wait until the last minute if you already know you will not be using your points. Giving yourself additional time creates more potential booking opportunities and can help preserve the value of your home resort booking advantage.

Have an Existing DVC Reservation You Won’t Be Using?

Unused points are not the only thing you may be able to rent.

If you already have a DVC reservation booked that you can no longer use, you may be able to list that stay as a confirmed reservation rather than canceling it and trying to rent the points separately.

Confirmed reservations can be especially appealing to Guests because the hard-to-find reservation is already secured. Instead of searching for available DVC inventory, the Guest can choose from an existing reservation with specific travel dates, a resort, and a room type already attached.

When listing a confirmed reservation with DVC Rental Store, you can choose a payout of up to $22 per point. However, the highest possible payout is not always the fastest path to finding a Guest.

If your priority is renting the reservation as quickly as possible, you may want to consider selecting a lower payout. A more competitively priced reservation can stand out to Guests browsing available confirmed reservations and may increase the likelihood of finding someone whose travel plans match your dates.

Not sure how to price your confirmed reservation? Contact the DVC Rental Store Member Relations team for advice. They know the DVC rental market and can help you determine what pricing may make the most sense for your particular reservation and goals.

What You Need to Know About Renting Out DVC Points

The amount you can get for renting your DVC points is ultimately driven by timing, home resort demand, and the types of rental opportunities available.

Points that can still take advantage of the 7-to-11-month home resort booking window may have greater earning potential, especially at resorts where Guest demand consistently exceeds available inventory. Getting your points into the DVC Rental Store system early also gives you more time to match them with an upcoming Guest request.

And if you already have a reservation you cannot use, listing it as a confirmed reservation gives you another potential way to recover value rather than simply canceling the trip.

Pricing and payouts are subject to change. Any specific price referenced within this article should not be considered an official estimate or guarantee of future payouts.

Now is the time to rent out your points with DVC Rental Store and turn those unused points into cash. Claim an open listing, list a confirmed reservation, or start renting your DVC points and let the DVC Rental Store team handle the rest.
