Old Key West: When Is Near Hospitality House Worth It Over Standard?
Disney’s Old Key West Resort is the very first Disney Vacation Club resort and home to some of the largest DVC villas. Within the sprawling resort there are two different booking categories: Near Hospitality House and Standard. These categories refer to different locations within the resort.
Both categories are the same number of DVC points, but Near Hospitality House can be harder to get. With this in mind, which category is best for you to book?
Near Hospitality House Is Worth It If…
Being near Hospitality House is great if you plan to enjoy more of the resort’s amenities. Hospitality House is where you will find the lobby, the Conch Flats General Store, most of the resort’s dining options like Olivia’s Cafe, and the Sandcastle Pool, which is the resort’s feature pool.
A villa near Hospitality House is also perfect if you want to visit Disney Springs more often. From Hospitality House, you can take the ferry to Disney Springs. There’s also a bus that can take you to Disney Springs from Old Key West. Hospitality House is the first stop on the route.
Near Hospitality House includes buildings 11-14 and 23-26. If you don’t have a car, it’s convenient to be in these buildings, so all the amenities are just a short walk away.
Near Hospitality House Is Not Worth It If…
A room near Hospitality House may not be worthwhile if you plan to spend more time in the theme parks. When taking the bus to the parks, Hospitality House is the last stop within the resort before going to the theme parks. This means that buses can be crowded or even full by the time they make it to Hospitality House, particularly during peak hours. If you’re spending more time in the theme parks, you may also find that you don’t need the amenities of Hospitality House, such as the feature pool and community hall.
Should you travel with your own car or a rental car, you may also find that being near Hospitality House is not essential. With a car, you can easily drive over to the Hospitality House for Olivia’s Cafe, Goods Food to Go, and all the other lobby amenities.
Lastly, if you or your travel party have difficulty with stairs, only buildings 62-64 have elevators at Old Key West. These are all within the Standard category. For any other buildings, it’s best to request a villa on the first floor that can be accessed without stairs.
