Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

14 Insider Secrets to Know Before Attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2019

August 21, 2019
By

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) is back!!!! We had the deepest pleasure of getting to witness the first MNSSHP of 2019! So we thought we’d share fourteen insider secrets about Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party for 2019 that will set you up for success!

Buy Your Ticket Early [And Use Discounts that Apply]

Buying your ticket at least a day in advance will save you $10 per ticket! This is true except for October 31, 2019. Everyone has to pay full price on Halloween! Side note, if you are a Disney Vacation Club member or an annual passholder, you get extra savings when buying your ticket!

Attend Early In The Halloween Season

There are two benefits to attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party early in the Halloween season. First, tickets are priced much lower in August than in October. The closer you get to Halloween, the higher the price of the ticket. This is natural considering the economics of supply and demand. The second benefit to attending early is that the crowds are lighter which means you get the same show and all the same experiences, without all the people and wait times!

An added bonus in the year 2019 is that Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is opening August 29, 2019. Because of this, we can assume that there will be a lull in guest attendance to Disney in the last part of August as guests will be waiting to visit until after the grand opening! Therefore, August (albeit a bit early in the year, and a bit late to schedule now) is optimal this year to visit Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party if you want minimal crowds!

DVC Members Can Enter At 2pm

There’s nothing better than getting extra special perks, and that’s exactly what you get when you are a DVC member enjoying MNSSHP! You can get in at 2pm! Everyone else gets in at 4pm, and the party starts at 7pm. Because the party starts at 7pm, many people arrive at 7pm. Take advantage of your “extra time” perk by getting in more rides before the show starts.

Pro Tip: On the opening night of MNSSHP 2019, they were not allowing Fastpass+ to be used. Therefore, if you have the ability to get into the Magic Kingdom at 2pm and get some fastpass+ from 2-6pm before they shut down Fastpass+…good for you!!

Attend The 2nd Mickey’s Boo To You! Parade

Everyone seems to rush for the first parade! A little patience can pay off as the second show has less people so it is much more enjoyable and easier to experience! Keep reading for parade and show times.

Know Which Rides To Ride!

There are certain rides during MNSSHP that have a “Halloween Twist”. These rides in 2019 are Space Mountain, Mad Tea Party, and Pirates of The Caribbean. Although there isn’t anything extra special about the Haunted Mansion during MNSSHP, it just doesn’t seem right to bypass this ride at a Halloween Party.

Pro Tip: For 2019 our Pirates of the Caribbean ride was definitely our favorite “Halloween Twist”. The live actors improv with each boat! They are a blast! Keep reading for the video of the Pirate’s ride!

Go For The Shows & Dance Parties!

Although you will have less wait times to ride rides, make the shows (and Dance parties) your priorities. You cannot watch the parade or fireworks show on just any day you visit Disney. However, you can ride the rides at Disney 365 days of the year. Speaking of Shows. There are three main shows:

  1. Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular -showings at 8:30pm, 10:45pm, & 12:00am
  2. Mickey’s “Boo-To-You” Halloween Parade-showings at 9:15pm and 11:15pm
  3. The NEW Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular – 10:15pm

This new fireworks show (Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular) lives up to its name and is SPECTACULAR!! As you can see, there is only one showing so you may want to adjust your schedule around it.

As for Disney’s Dance Parties, there are three! The Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball. Lots of fun! Great music! Good hype! Disney hosts the Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam in Fantasyland, and they brought in the BRAND NEW Disney Descendance Party at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. See what Disney did there? 😉

Don’t Reserve Dinner Dining

Time is of the essence during MNSSHP, there is so much to do: meet characters, get candy, watch the shows, ride some rides! Making dinner reservations on a night you will be attending MNSSHP may cut down on all the other activities you want to do and only add to your frustration. We recommend leaving table service dining for another night of the week. Better yet, if you have the meal plan, utilize your meal allowance to reserve breakfast or lunch at a resort for a fun, slow, relaxing day.

Wear Comfortable Costumes

This is pretty obvious, and I’m not trying to sound like your mother. However, if you are like me, sometimes we get so excited about something that would look great, but not really feel great (#shoes). I think to myself, “I can muscle through the discomfort – beauty is pain”, only to find myself 4 hours later, regretting my choices.

Case in point – those bright yellow shoes? They were once comfortable before…BEFORE…they were painted yellow for our costumes. Forty-five minutes into the party, I had a bloody blister on each achilles. Yes, I changed them out. You may want to bring an extra pair of shoes too. 🙂

Don’t Waste Time In Line For Candy

You could get that same candy on sale at your local grocery store. You’ve just spent a lot of money to come into the Magic Kingdom and experience Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, so why not enjoy all the Kingdom has to offer.

Pro Tip: If you are intent on trick or treating, save it towards the end of the night when lines are shorter!  Aaand I hear that cast members are more generous 😉

If You Have Allergies, ask for the Teal Allergy Friendly Fun Bag

Disney is extremely conscious and accommodating of guests allergic needs. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is no exception. If you do have allergies, just ask a cast member for a teal allergy friendly fun bag. Instead of candy, you will get tokens that you can redeem at the end of the night at Disney’s Allergy Friendly Centers.

See Mickey In His Costume About 2 Hours Into The Party

Speaking of planning ahead to maximize time, you will want to plan to see Mickey about 2 hours into the party (party starts at 7pm). There is less wait time to see him around 9pm, which means more time for you to take in other parts of the party!!!

If It’s a Busy Night, Watch The Boo To You Parade at Frontierland

Notice the key here is: if the park is super busy. You can watch the parade anywhere from Frontierland (where it starts) through Liberty Square, in front of the Castle, and down Main Street. If the crowds are lite, choose anywhere along the route!

Also, if you are on Main Street, you are the last to experience the parade. If you are into riding rides, this will put you behind the lines for rides. If you watch from Frontierland, the parade ends early for you and you can quickly hop into Pirates of the Caribbean or some other ride!

Catch Your Favorite Ride Minutes Before Closing Time!

Supposing you stay at the party up until closing time, you can often catch a ride or two as the lines are very short the last 45 minutes before closing! This is exactly what we did with Pirates of the Caribbean! We were in line maybe a total of 10 minutes.

Know Where The Fun Food Is

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party of 2019 has some extra special treats: Sleepy Hollow is serving a Chocolate Mickey Waffle Sundae and Headless Horseman Cheesecake! Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies has a Pumpkin Spice Soft Serve Sundae as well as a Pumpkin Spice Milkshake.  Storybook Treats is serving up a Maleficent Cone, and Liberty Square Popcorn Cart has a “Constance’s For Better or for Worse Wedding Cake.” Main Street Bakery is showcasing, “Amuck, Amuck, Amuck Cupcake” and also a Halloween Cinnamon Roll!
