Best Times for a DVC Trip the Rest of the Year
We’re nearly halfway through 2022, and it’s time to get serious about your next Disney Vacation Club vacation.
You want to book while you still have a chance to enjoy Walt Disney World’s 50th-anniversary celebration.
Thankfully, DVC Rental Store lists hundreds of Confirmed Reservations that will fit your travel plans. But when should you go?
Here are five of the best times for a DVC trip during the second half of 2022.
Mid-August
In many parts of North America, the school season starts back during the first two weeks of August.
I realize that’s a shocking thought, as many of the same schools only recently finished the 2021-2022 season, but it’s true. For example, my county’s school starts back on August 8th.
So, those of you who aren’t bound by the school year when you travel possess a unique opportunity here.
You can visit during the summer without worrying as much about large crowds.
Walt Disney World never truly slows down these days. Still, the parks approach maximum capacity from mid-June through early August.
After that, you’ll find a sweet spot where the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is still new and fresh, while the crowds are tolerable.
The only catch with this plan is the heat. In August, the Central Florida area suffers an average high temperature of 90 degrees and an average low temperature of 76 degrees. That may be too hot for some of you.
Late September
While Disney doesn’t experience an offseason these days, it does grow less crowded after Labor Day. The parks will remain “empty” by Disney standards until mid-October.
You shouldn’t have any illusions that the place will seem empty or that you’ll walk right on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, though. Still, you’ll experience more attractions during each day of your visit.
Even better, the DVC Points Chart incentivizes guests to travel in September. So, you’ll spend either fewer of your own points or less money renting points from DVC Rental Store.
Notably, the weather also cools down some in late September. High temperatures will hover in the mid-80s, while low temperatures average 70 degrees. That’s a lovely weather range for Central Florida.
During your vacation, you’ll also enjoy the opportunity to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which returns to Magic Kingdom this year.
Technically, that statement applies to a mid-August visit as well, as the event begins on August 12th. Still, I’ve always found it a bit premature to celebrate Halloween in August.
September feels closer to that spooky vibe, but the best time for my family is…
Halloween/Early November
I’m devout in the belief that this is THE best time of the year to visit Walt Disney World.
My family has spent several Halloween Nights at Magic Kingdom over the past decade, and we plan to do so in 2022 as well.
Why do we prefer this approach? When you vacation at Disney around Halloween, you enjoy the best of both worlds.
You’ll watch all the Halloween decorations in place, and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party just feels right on October 31st.
However, by the time you arrive at the park on November 1st, cast members have already taken down these decorations.
In their place, Christmas trees and holiday lights go up at the various parks and resorts. Usually, Walt Disney World has fully converted to end-of-year holiday decorations.
I’m talking about the Gingerbread Houses, the limited-time dessert stores, and literally millions of lights and ornaments everywhere you go.
This transition never fails to amaze me, and I cannot wait to experience it again starting on Halloween.
Early December
Again, the DVC Points Chart proves instructive here. A fascinating phenomenon occurs in November and early December at Walt Disney World.
Guests visit the parks to experience the holiday decorations, with the numbers surging during Thanksgiving week.
People tend to vacation in Orlando through the end of that week, which ends on November 27th this year. After that, park attendance turns sluggish for a while.
Guests want to witness events like the Candlelight Processional and the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. Still, they’re often willing to wait until later in December.
So, wise Disney fans capitalize on this vacuum by visiting in early December. It’s not only a less crowded time but also comes with a bonus.
Television crews film many of Disney’s holiday performances during early December.
You could ostensibly visit at that time and later watch yourself on Christmas on ABC! Plus, you get to watch free shows from famous performers during your trip.
Previous years have included artists like Demi Lovato, Mariah Carey, and Sting. It’s a spectacular bonus for people who want to visit Disney anyway!
Finally, while Disney hasn’t confirmed details yet, I presume that Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will return in 2022.
Christmas Week
You should know two things about a Walt Disney World visit between December 20th and January 3rd.
The first is that the parks will be more crowded than any other time during the year. I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend the holidays at Disney?
Second, the DVC Points Chart takes that fact into consideration. So, you’ll spend more of your DVC Points or money on renting points during this timeframe.
However, you WILL get what you pay for because, again, you’re at Walt Disney World at Christmas. What’s better than that?
Also, some of the events from Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party switch to free during Christmas week. That’ll make your dream holiday vacation even better!
So, those are the five remaining times in 2022 that I’d suggest for would-be vacations.
