Best DVC Resorts for Short Trips

January 29, 2022
By

One of the true joys in life is a quick trip to Walt Disney World. Sometimes, we all need a weekend getaway to clear our minds and get right.

There’s no better place to go than the Most Magical Place on Earth. Still, you may miscalculate if you pick the wrong DVC resort.

You want to minimize all the aggravations that come from paralysis analysis. So here are the best five DVC resorts for short trips.

These places will provide everything you need on your vacation!

Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

A “quick” Disney vacation still lasts five or six nights for many DVC members. However, I’m assuming something different here.

I’m guessing you found that perfect confirmed reservation and are spending only two or three nights in Orlando.

As such, some different considerations come into play. First, you don’t want to spend your trip sitting at Disney bus depots. Ergo, logistics matter more.

Also, you’d rather stay somewhere with excellent restaurants, either onsite or nearby. You’d also like to do some shopping because retail therapy will cheer up anybody.

Bay Lake Tower shines through in all three scenarios. This hotel resides only a few hundred steps away from the entrance to Magic Kingdom.

So, you can go to the most popular theme park on the planet whenever you want. It’s your next-door neighbor!

Similarly, Bay Lake Tower’s other neighbor is the Contemporary, which connects via a fourth/fifth floor bridge.

Once you walk into the Contemporary, you’re staring at the side wall of one excellent store and will notice two others when you glance right.

As for the food, you’ve got your pick of California Grill, Contempo Café, or Steakhouse 71. That’s pretty strong.

Disney’s Beach Club Villas

This resort features many of the same advantages as Bay Lake Tower. The difference is that Beach Club resides by the back door of EPCOT.

Once you exit your DVC room, you’re a short walk away from the International Gateway entrance at the World Showcase. From there, the world is your oyster.

You can shop and dine to your heart’s content. Personally, I’m all about Mitsukoshi Department Store at the Japan pavilion. Also, I love the entertainment options at EPCOT.

Of course, you may not want to leave the hotel. On this campus, you can hang out at Stormalong Bay or dine at DVC favorites like Cape May Café and Beaches & Cream Soda Shop.

If none of that strikes your fancy, you can explore the options at Disney’s BoardWalk as well!

Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

The Polynesian works well when you would also like a bit of romanticism on your trip.

Yes, this hotel possesses phenomenal logistics, as it’s a boat or monorail ride away from Magic Kingdom.

However, you shouldn’t forget that it’s also an exotic beach resort, at least with its theming. You cannot dip your toe in the water or anything.

What you can do is take off your shoes and stick your toes in the sand during a lovely evening stroll, though.

Once you’re done at the parks, you can eat and drink exceptionally well at the Polynesian, too. ‘Ohana, Capt. Cook’s, and Kona Café are all delightful in their own unique ways.

Then, there’s Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, home of some of the most inventive drink presentations in Florida. Oh, and you can grab a Dole Whip at the Polynesian, too!

Disney’s Riviera Resort

Disney introduced the Disney Skyliner and the Riviera at roughly the same time. So, it’s nearly impossible to distinguish them.

When you stay at the Riviera, you can hole up in a Tower Studio for the most intimate of romantic weekends.

You don’t need to leave the hotel to eat well, either. Instead, you simply head to the top floor and feast at Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera.

When you’re ready to visit a theme park, the Skyliner will carry you directly to two of them, EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

So, much of what I said about Beach Club applies here as well. In fact, it’s slightly better if you’re a Hollywood Studios fan.

You can hop on a gondola and be at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in less than 30 minutes!

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

Okay, this choice seems a bit unconventional, but please hear me out.

When you visit Walt Disney World regularly, the rides gradually become less essential. As a result, you develop a “been there, done that” attitude about some stuff.

So, when you spend a short vacation at Disney, you may not visit the parks as much.

Instead, you’d rather shop and relax. You may even want to play some golf, which is perfect since Saratoga Springs is right by a course!

Most importantly, you can find anything else you want at Disney Springs. The drinking, dining, and shopping options here will provide you with ample entertainment.

When you choose to visit the parks, you’re only a 10-minute bus ride away. So, Saratoga Springs is ideal for a more relaxed vacation, one where you’re not looking at your phone the whole time.
