5 Reasons DVC Owners May Want to Rent Points for a Stay

March 18, 2022
By

When you’re a DVC member, you know that you have points for decades of vacations to come.  So why would you need to rent points?  Well, there are times when it can still be advantageous to rent points for a trip.

To Get a Non-Home Resort at the 11-Month Mark

Even though you can use your points at other resorts within the 0- to 7-month booking window, non-home resorts can sometimes be difficult to book.  For example, The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa are nearly impossible to reserve since there are only 48 two-bedroom villas (some of which are lock-offs that can be split into a one-bedroom villa and a studio) and 2 grand villas.  Renting from someone who owns points at the Grand Californian can make it much easier to score that coveted reservation.

To Avoid Contract Restrictions

Points from resale contracts purchased after January 2019 can’t be used at Disney’s Riviera Resort or any future DVC resorts, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stay there.  By renting points, you can book one of the beautiful villas at Riviera and enjoy being a quick Skyliner ride away from Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

To Book a Last Minute Getaway

Sometimes the countdown to that next DVC stay feels so far away that you just want to book a last-minute trip.  However, availability can be tough to come by when you’re looking at options a couple of months, weeks, or even days away.  For instances like this, a confirmed reservation may be just what you need.  These are reservations that have already been secured and are available to rent.  You may even find a discounted last-minute getaway.  Some are priced as low as $10/point!

To Reserve a Villa for a Large Group

Maybe you want to plan a family reunion or a celebration with your closest friends and family, and you’re dreaming of booking a grand villa, Copper Creek cabin, or Polynesian bungalow, but those accommodations are out of reach based on the number of points you own.  Renting points in this case lets you book the accommodation you want and still save compared to what you would pay by booking a cash reservation through Disney.

To Make a Reservation when You’re Out of Points

If you’re like me, you never seem to have enough points, and the current borrowing restrictions do not make this situation any better.  Renting points means that you can still book your favorite DVC resort without paying cash rates.  After all, renting points through the DVC Rental Store costs up to 65% less than booking through Disney.

Whatever your reason may be for renting points, the DVC Rental Store makes the process easy and gives you peace of mind with their stress-free cancellation policy
