What Makes runDisney Races So Special?

February 25, 2025
By

If you love Disney and you love running, a runDisney race is a must-do!  runDisney races are pricier than your average race, so what makes them so special to justify that cost?

You Run Through the Theme Parks

One of the biggest highlights of a runDisney race is being able to run through the theme parks!  For example, for many of the Disney World half marathons you get to run through EPCOT and Magic Kingdom, and for the full marathon during Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, you get to run through EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom.

Since many of the races take place before the parks open, you have the rare opportunity to be in a relatively empty park.  There’s nothing quite like running down Main Street U.S.A. towards Cinderella Castle with all the spectators cheering you on!

There Are Lots of Characters and Entertainment

It wouldn’t be a runDisney race without all your favorite characters!  You can stop and pose for photos with characters throughout the run.  These characters vary from race to race.  Many of them are rare characters like Remy and Emile, Jiminy Cricket, Genie, Sebastian, King Louie, and Mushu to name a few from past races. You may also find Mickey and friends in specially themed costumes.

While there are Photopass photographers available to take your picture, cast members are also happy to help snap a pic on your phone if you prefer.

You Earn Some Fun Hardware

In addition to a shirt to commemorate the race, everyone receives a medal at the end of the race.  RunDisney medals are quite unique.  The beautiful and rather hefty medals feature the main character of the race and often have a fun feature, such as pieces that move, spin, or slide.  It’s always fun to wear your medal in the parks following the race to celebrate your accomplishment!
