Typhoon Lagoon vs. Blizzard Beach: Which Water Park Is for You?

April 2, 2026
By

From May 26 through September 28, 2026, guests staying at Disney-owned-and-operated resorts receive free admission to a water park on their check-in day.  This includes guests who rent DVC stays!  If you have a stay coming up this summer, which water park should you visit: Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach?

For Thrill Seekers

Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach each have thrilling water slides. However, the general consensus is that the ones at Blizzard Beach are faster and more intense.  In fact, the 360-foot-long Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach is one of the tallest and fastest free-fall body slides in the world!

For Families with Young Children

Both water parks have family raft rides and splash pad areas designed with little ones in mind, but Blizzard Beach’s splash pad, Tike’s Peak, may have the advantage here. This area is meant for children 48 inches or shorter and was refurbished in 2021 as an adorable Frozen-themed wonderland complete with Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and some Snowgies.  Tike’s Peak has slides, a mini inner-tube ride, and wading pools.

Melt-Away Bay is also a nice option for families with young children. The one-acre wave pool is accessible to guests of any height and is much gentler than Typhoon Lagoon’s wave pool, Surf Pool, which produces 6-foot waves every 90 seconds.

For a Laid-Back Day

Many guests who just want a slower-paced water park day prefer Typhoon Lagoon. While there, you can enjoy a gentle ride along Castaway Creek. The lazy river makes a nice leisurely 2,000-foot loop around the water park, passing by grottoes, waterfalls, and bridges along the way.

For a little extra relaxation in the shade, you can rent a Typhoon Lagoon Umbrella with an umbrella, 2 reserved lounge chairs, 2 beach chairs, a small table, and towels, or you can rent a Beachcomber Shack. These private shaded areas are for up to 10 guests and have seating, towels, a cooler with water and soft drinks, a locker, and dedicated cast members to take your food and beverage orders.
