This past January I participated in my second Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend event (Half Marathon). To celebrate my accomplishment I decided I wanted to try the Yachtsman Steakhouse due to the rave reviews and also the fact that we were staying at the Yacht Club Resort. This trip was my mother and myself and dining with her can be difficult because she is a vegetarian. Yes, indeed I made my mother go to a steakhouse. (She didn’t complain too much =)
First off, I would like to say if you are interested in trying out this high-end steakhouse; I would recommend making your dining reservation 180 days in advance to get the best time slot for your schedule. Though, I have noticed that there seems to be many openings for this restaurant most times when I am searching for last minute reservations. Also, due to the fact that this is a signature restaurant there is a dress code that can be found here.
I am giving the Yachtsman Steakhouse a 5/5 rating based on atmosphere, experience, and food. Starting with atmosphere the restaurant is very sophisticated. When you walk in to check in for your reservation you will see on the left hand side a window where you can actually see the chef preparing the meats (My vegetarian mother thought this was disgusting). If you are seated in the bay window section of the restaurant it has the feeling of being on a yacht, which was a very nice design.
Moving on to the experience itself I would like to give a very special compliment to the staff of the entire restaurant. From the moment I checked in at the podium to our waiter I was highly impressed. Our waiter impressed me the most in that he was very accommodating to answer all of our questions about the meal choices. He even convinced my mother to try the vegetarian dish and offered her a full refund if she did not enjoy it. She did.
Drum roll please, moving on to the best part…the food! To start you are brought different types of bread that are complemented with onions and butter. We then indulged in salads. I had the wedge Caesar salad and my mom had the Land Garden Greens Salad. The salads were huge and were definitely worth the high price.
Being a steak lover I decided to go with the Filet Mignon that was drizzled in a Cabernet Wine Sauce with a side of delicious mashed potatoes. It was one of the best filet’s I have ever tried and I have been to multiple high-end steakhouses. My mother ordered the Butternut Squash Waffle with Maple-Salsify Syrup, Brown Butter, Asian Pear, and Chanterelle on top. We decided to pass on dessert (though we saw many people trying very good looking treats). We headed to Beaches N’ Cream for an ice cream cone instead.
A major factor before deciding to treat yourself at this restaurant is the high cost. The bill for two people for dinner was very expensive but we both agreed that the price was worth it. I would not recommend this restaurant for a family with young children. I would instead offer a suggestion of having a date night and enjoy yourself in a great atmosphere and food.
