My Top 10 Things To Do In The Rain At Walt Disney World
Having lived in Florida for some time now I have learned to “Go with the flow”. It can start out bright and sunny and turn into a downpour in a matter of a few minutes. If you are on vacation, you want all things bright and beautiful and it doesn’t always turn out that way. When you are at Disney, the rain is okay, there are still LOTS of things to do.
#10 Resort Hop
Going from resort to resort, courtesy of the Disney transportation is so much fun. Each resort has it’s own theming, some really great restaurants, and very unique gift shops to look into. You can travel via bus, boat or the monorail, depending on which resort you want to go to. Looking around costs you nothing.
#9 Stay at the Park
Even though it is raining, the park continues to operate. Depending on the severity of the rain and if there is lightning, most of the rides are still running. Many people feel the need to run from the rain and seek shelter, that’s a win for you. Grab a poncho and ride the rides that are still operational (the lines will shrink drastically). See a show. Many of the parks have outstanding shows that are indoors and by the time the show is over the rain has stopped. Look in the shops. This is one of my favorites. The shops at the parks are fun to look in but if you know it’s raining and you have some time you can really look for that special hidden treasure.
#8 Go to a Water Park
Yes, you heard me correctly, go to a water park! Florida is great with having the ability to have its water parks open all year round. If the weather is warm and the rain starts, the water parks are awesome! This one also needs to be understood as long as there is no lightning. You are wet anyway and the crowds are definitely less when there is rain. Snorkeling in the shark reef at Typhoon Lagoon, with very few people, is always a win for me. This is my favorite attraction at this water park and with so few people you are granted a little extra time. The toboggan racers, at Blizzard Beach, are also a blast in the rain.
#7 Shopping at Downtown Disney
There are so many great things to see and do at Downtown Disney. Hop on a Disney Bus and it will take you to Downtown Disney and you could spend the day. Rain or Shine, this is so much fun. I can spend hours there. Walking in all the shops. Whether it’s clothes, souvenirs, or a snack, the shops at Downtown Disney has it all. When you are done shopping you can find some really great places to eat, as well.
#6 Disney Quest is a Great Option
This goes hand in hand with Downtown Disney. Disney Quest is a multi story arcade experience located in Downtown Disney. Whether you are looking for the old friends we grew up with (Frogger, Donkey Kong, Pac Man) or you are looking for a more interactive type of game (my favorite is Pirates of The Caribbean), Disney Quest has it all. This can very easily take up a day.
#5 Cirque du Soleil
This is another great option in the Downtown Disney area. La Nouba is also a great attraction that is totally indoors. Never been to a Cirque du Soleil performance? The rain is just the excuse you need to see this exciting and fun for everyone, experience. The tickets for this are a little pricey just to be getting out of the rain, but if you needed an excuse to see it, let the rain take the blame!
#4 Get a Massage
What better way to relax when it is raining, a trip to the spa. Several of the Disney resorts have spas. Whether you are looking for a massage or a mani/pedi, the resorts have great services and they make for a relaxing indulgence on your Disney vacation. I recommend this whether it is raining or not.
#3 Head back to Downtown Disney
Splitsville is another great get out of the rain, place to go. Not just another bowling alley. This is bowling done Disney style. Bigger, better, and greater than the average bowling alley. Great food and great fun.
#2 AMC Dine-In Theatre
So this is my last suggestion about Downtown Disney. You could spend days in this area and do all kinds of awesome things! This theatre gives you the ability to watch a movie and eat dinner, at the same time. You get table service and an awesome movie.
