My Top 5 – Walt Disney World Resort Snacks
Your Walt Disney World Resort vacation was planned months ago. You’ve made all of your Advance Dining Reservations. In fact, you’ve had time to question your choices, cancel and rebook again and again. You awoke at your Disney Vacation Club Villa before dawn. You made it to rope drop, ran to Space Mountain and are on your way to the Haunted Mansion. You have your head down, the kids in tow. You have a plan and you will not be denied. Then it hits. Maybe it’s the smokey aroma of a warm turkey leg. Or it may be the sight of someone nibbling on Mickey’s chocolate enrobed ice cream ear. More than likely it’s the cries of your children screaming “Mom! We’re hungry!” Whatever your trigger may be, you want, no, you need a snack!
So what will you choose? There are carts that sell ice cream, popcorn or even fruit. But you want more. You want something memorable. Something iconic. Me too! I have my favorite snacks. The snacks that I go back to time and again. The ones that make each Disney stay memorable and even one or two that I would fight a South American tour group to get to. So here are my top 5 Walt Disney World snacks:
#5 Cupcakes – Starring Rolls at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Starring Rolls is the Mecca of the cupcake kingdom! The kind doesn’t matter. They are all outrageously delicious! You’ll find flavors which include: white chocolate, peanut butter & chocolate, tiramisu, red velvet, marble, and more. If I had to choose my favorite it would be the Butterfinger Cupcake. The Butterfinger Cupcake combines Chocolate cake, vanilla frosting, chocolate coating, and Butterfinger crumbles. Yummm!
#4 School Bread – Epcot’s Norway pavilion at Kringla Bakeri og Cafe
This treat consists of a sweet bread roll which has been injected with vanilla custard, then covered with sweet icing and toasted coconut. It is not too sweet which seems to make it just right. I have a weakness for toasted coconut and custard so School Bread seems to call my name. It’s little Norwegian voice sings, “Paal Liten, Paal Liten, komme, nyte!”
#3 Warm Caramel Sundae – Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, Downtown Disney
Two scoops of premium vanilla ice cream layered with warm Ghirardelli creamy caramel and topped with whipped cream, chopped almonds, a cherry and Ghirardelli’s famous Ghiradelli Squares milk chocolate with caramel. Need I say more?
#2 Bread Pudding – Earl of Sandwich, Downtown Disney
Threw you didn’t I? I love bread pudding. At least well-made bread pudding, and Earl of Sandwich has it. I have been known to hoard these in my Disney Vacation Club villa for a quick breakfast or afternoon snack. Not too dense, not too sweet, spiced just right. The Earl of Bread Pudding. I like it. It has a nice ring to it.
#1 Dole Whip Float – Aloha Isle, Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park
I love Dole Whip Floats. I crave Dole Whip Floats. I have killed (oops), would kill for Dole Whip Floats. My visits to the Magic Kingdom are structured around my Aloha Isle visits. I am usually the first in line when the shutters open and the last in line that evening. I have never ventured from the classic pineapple soft serve with pineapple juice and never will. But beware, enjoying these can be dangerous if not done correctly. When you receive your float you will be provided a straw and a long plastic spoon. DO NOT use these together. Placing your straw in your float and diving in with your spoon will cause pineapple juice to travel up your straw and exit in a startling and messy manner. Imagine Fire Rock Geyser at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Villas. Now replace that mental image with pineapple juice. One shot in the eye and you’ll have learned your lesson.
So there you have it. Once man’s snack passions. What’s yours?
