More Beloved Disney Restaurants Reopening Soon
Disney just confirmed the near-immediate returns of several popular restaurants. But, alas, one other change will make it harder for DVC members to eat cheap on vacation. Allow me to explain.
A Perishable Goods Policy Change
Last Friday, July 23rd, Disney quietly altered a longstanding policy involving resort split stays.
Before then, guests could easily transfer luggage from resort to resort for free. Now, that part hasn’t changed. Disney still provides Bell Services free of charge (not including tips).
The different part involves perishables. Bell Services employees can no longer accept responsibility for the transfer of perishable goods.
I have no idea what could have led to this modification. Did Bell Services get stuck with a suitcase full of rotten fruit or something?
Alas, no matter the reason, this rule change has already gone into effect. Disney expects guests to transport their own perishable goods.
So, you should pack any perishables in a backpack, purse, fanny pack, or the like if you want to keep them during a split stay.
Yes, this turn of events is aggravating for healthy eaters and huge fans of produce. However, they’re not the ones impacted the most.
Those of you with perishable medication should take this policy change seriously. It could impact your trip if you don’t allow for the new rules.
Yachtsman Steakhouse Is Back!
This past weekend, Cheshire Café and Prince Eric’s Village Market quietly reopened at Magic Kingdom.
At the time, park officials hinted that they were the first of several impending restaurant reopenings. And they weren’t joking!
Disney will break out some of the big guns over the next few days. The headline grabber for theme park fans is that Columbia Harbour House reopens on August 5th.
If you’ve visited Walt Disney World during the pandemic, you know that Disney used this building as part of the line queue for Peter Pan’s Flight. That’s legitimately something you’ll tell your kids about one day.
Now, the Lobster Roll is coming back home to Columbia Harbour House after a brief, admittedly weird vacation at Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant.
In other park news, Pizzafari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom reopens on August 2nd, which is next Monday.
Resorts are also reopening some of their most popular offerings. At Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort & Spa, Toledo – Tapas, Steaks, & Seafood returns on August 5th.
Yes, you can order small plates while gazing across the Walt Disney World empire from the rooftop restaurant. The last people to dine here were NBA players during the NBA Bubble season. So, its return is a big deal.
DVC Resort Restaurant Updates
For DVC members, this isn’t even the most exciting news. After an agonizing absence, Yachtsman Steakhouse will finally return at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club.
While I’m more of a Le Cellier Steakhouse fan, many DVC members deem Yachtsman Steakhouse the finest of all Walt Disney World steaks. So, we’ve all missed it.
In less happy news, California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort isn’t accepting reservations after October 2nd.
There is a message (in red ink!) published on the official site that says:
“California Grill is currently unavailable for bookings after October 2 as we create a special dining experience for the 50th anniversary celebration of Walt Disney World Resort.”
Of course, this news makes the return of Toledo that much more significant. Remember that you can mirror the California Grill experience here and at Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera.
