4 Unique Extras to Add to your Walt Disney World Trip

WRITTEN BY:   Mallory Wilk,  DVC Rental Store Blogger | November 11, 2014

Have you ever wanted to try snorkeling but are afraid of the ocean? How about surfing? Walt Disney World could be the perfect spot to try these activities offered throughout the parks. Grab your swimsuit and towel and lets dive in….

1. Surf Lessons at Typhoon Lagoon

Are you looking to hang ten without getting all sandy? Here is the perfect experience for guests ages 8+. The cost is currently $165 for a 2.5-hour class. Be prepared to wake up very early (I think we were in a taxi by 4am for this experience). One of the best parts is getting pictures of Typhoon Lagoon with no one in them. During this session you will learn the ins and outs of surfing and then you will hit the waves for the rest of the time. Spectators can watch but only immediate family members (don’t try and bring the entire hotel with you to watch). This is a great experience for anyone interested in learning how to surf in a non-shark environment! (No, sharks don’t scare me but it does make you feel safer knowing they are not there).

2. EPCOT Seas Aqua Tour

If you have wanted to try snorkeling for the first time Disney may be the best place to do so. With no current to send you away from the boat you can experience 6,000 seas creatures that will include angelfish, sharks, rays, and even sea turtles. This is a 2.5- hour experience where you will actually feel like you are in the movie Finding Nemo. The cost is $140.00 per person and includes a picture, souvenir, and tour of the facilities. Guests must be 8 years or older so this could be a perfect experience for the whole family. It may not compare to the open ocean but for first timers this is a great alternative.

3. Richard Petty Driving Experience

Now maybe water is not exactly your “thing.” How about driving a racecar that reaches up to 600hp! This is by no means a “cheap” experience so if you are interested you might want to start saving ASAP! The price ranges from $449-$2,599 depending on the experience that you choose. This is sure to be many guys’ fantasies so while the kids are playing at the pool how about you head to the track to create some memories that will last a lifetime. Now if you are not thrilled about driving the vehicle there is also an option to sit as a passenger, which would be more up my alley. This would sure make a great gift for any NASCAR fan!

4. Characters in Flight

Looking for a more affordable option while how about some hot air? No, please don’t get offended! What I mean is the option to fly high up in the sky over Downtown Disney in a hot air balloon. Talk about a thrilling experience! (Not recommend if you are afraid of heights). The cost is one of the best parts of this experience, only $12.00 for children and $18.00 for adults.

If any of these experiences interest you I would highly recommend checking out other special events and tours at Walt Disney World by clicking here. The price is not always affordable by any means but if you have the extra time and or cash during your trip I would highly recommend any tour or special event. Walt Disney World is not just about theme parks and rides and these tours will help you to realize that. Lastly, please book your reservations as far in advance in possible as some of these slots do fill up quickly. I hope you learned something that Disney offers that you never knew about before! See you at the parks!
